Base coat is controlled by Extension (E/e) and Agouti (A/a). Chestnut is recessive e/e, black is E/_ with a/a, bay is E/_ with A/_ . Gray (G) is dominant and lightens any base over time. Cream (Cr) dilutes: one copy on bay = buckskin, on chestnut = palomino, on black = smoky black; two copies = perlino, cremello, smoky cream.
This calculator uses scientifically defensible Mendelian probabilities for these three well-understood genes. Other genes (dun, silver, champagne, etc.) are not modeled and can modify. Architecture is extensible for other animal coat genetics by adding loci.

Bay sire (E/_ A/_) × chestnut dam (e/e a/a): 50% bay, 50% chestnut for base; plus gray/cream if parents carry. Bay × black gives 75% bay/black, 25% chestnut etc.
